Hello & Goodbye Kitty

Day Thirty-Four - Tuesday March 31

Got out in the early afternoon to a remote park playground that I think only I check. I found about a dollar in change in a quick 20 minutes also witnessed a heinous act by somebody in the parking lot some 2 or 3 hundred yards from where I was at. I look around more than a bird does in search of enemies. I like to detect alone (and I mean real alone; unless I actually bring somebody with me!) and any movement in my periphery begs my immediate attention so that I can make my getaway. Casual conversation with strangers is anathema to what I'm doing out in the field. Anyhow, I spied a car pulling up and I quickly said to myself, "Keep going %@$@#!@!" despite the great distance between the parked car and myself. I watched as somebody got out of the car and looked to be unleashing their dog for a quick run in the field. Instead it looked more like a soft toss and what appeared to be a velvety black kitten flew briefly with a parachute on its back, landed and darted towards a small stream to the south of his release. "Hmmm..." I thought, "a cat who goes for field walks and wears a parachute." I looked away for a few seconds carrying on with my task and when I looked back I saw the person retreating to the passenger side of the car and shutting the door. "No way." I said to myself, knowing exactly what was coming. Sure enough, the car backed out and drove off. Cretins! I could see the car as it was leaving and the most egregious of acts of placing their turn signal on and moving off. Truly disgusting. A few minutes later I finished the play area off and walked over to where kitty should be. I did the old kissing cat call as I walked but did not see him despite scanning the meandering stream which he surely hadn't traversed. Finally, as I was approaching the parking lot to leave I saw him. He was standing out on the soccer field near the netted goal. When I called for him again he ran off zig-zagging in his gait seemingly confused as though intrigued by my calls. I said a few expletives to audibly and got to the car only to see him sitting across the way looking and then darting off again as workers were approaching the play area. I will have to visit the park again next Tuesday and see if he is still there roaming the grounds. Hopefully the sick bastards who dumped him will have a change of heart and come back for him. Maybe even just to check on the poor soul. Hopefully I cross their path because I'll take down their plate and report their vile abandonment. Oh yes, the coin hunting went well again for about 2 hours total including my late afternoon revisiting of yesterday's romp.
